About Us

At The Reuse Initiative CIC, we believe that waste is just a resource in the wrong place.

Our mission is simple: “To rescue unwanted and discarded items, recycle and upcycle them into valuable resources and create affordable, sustainable solutions for our community — while protecting our planet from unnecessary waste.”

Who We Are

Based in Ellesmere Port, serving Cheshire and North Wales, The Reuse Initiative CIC is a not-for-profit social enterprise dedicated to:

  • Reducing landfill waste through practical recycling and creative reuse.
  • Recovering valuable materials, such as metals, plastics, textiles, wood and electronics.
  • Providing affordable, eco-friendly products to local households and community groups.
  • Creating jobs, volunteering and skills-building opportunities for people who want to make a difference.

We currently operate at a small scale, but our vision is to grow into a community recycling hub where local people and businesses come together to transform waste into opportunity.

Every item we rescue has a second chance — and every pound raised goes straight back into our mission.

What We Do

Every day, perfectly reusable and recyclable items end up at tips and recycling centres. We step in to rescue and repurpose these items, focusing on:

🌍 “The Cycle of Change – Turning waste into opportunity.”

The Cycle of Change

Changing the way we see waste — together.

The Cycle of Change is our core ethos at The Reuse Initiative CIC.
We believe every item has a story — and with the right approach, its story doesn’t have to end in a landfill.

Our four action steps guide how we tackle waste and create opportunities for people and the planet:

  • Rescue – The start of change. Save it before it’s lost.
  • Restore – Giving new purpose. Give it a new lease of life.
  • Rebuild – Recovering value. Break it down, build it up.
  • Reinvent – A completely new chapter. Create something entirely new.

Why We Exist

Each year, millions of tonnes of valuable materials are thrown away in the UK, while families and small businesses struggle to access affordable resources.
We aim to bridge that gap by:

  • Reducing waste and pollution through hands-on recycling and repurposing.
  • Supporting the local economy with affordable, practical products.
  • Creating pathways to skills and employment in the growing green sector.
  • Building a stronger, more sustainable community for future generations.

What Makes Us Different

The Reuse Initiative CIC is not just another recycling service.
Here’s what sets us apart:

  • We partner with local charities, businesses, and schools to collect local unsold or damaged goods free of charge, stopping them from going straight to landfill.
  • We salvage everything possible, from appliance motors and copper wiring to plastics, reusable parts and textiles.
  • Our small-batch upcycling projects create affordable, eco-friendly products that serve a real purpose in the community.
  • As we grow, we plan to train and employ local people, creating new opportunities while helping the environment.

Our Impact

Every piece of furniture resold, every wire recycled, every kilogram of plastic diverted makes a difference.

When you support us, you help to:

  • Divert waste from landfill and protect the planet.
  • Provide low-cost essentials to families and community groups.
  • Create a cleaner, greener local environment.
  • Build a local circular economy that keeps resources in use for longer.

Get Involved

We can’t do this alone.
Whether you are:

  • A charity shop or house clearance company with unsold or broken items,
  • A business or school looking to reduce your waste,
  • Or a local resident with items you no longer need,

…we’d love to work with you.

Together, we can turn waste into opportunity and create a future where nothing goes to waste.
